4-Ingredient Banana Oat Cookies (gluten-free and optional dairy-free)

A healthy alternative that uses up your overripe bananas and satisfies your sweet tooth!

Every time I've posted these cookies on my Instagram story, I've been asked for the recipe. Healthy food alternatives don't have to be the prettiest or most aesthetically pleasing, but they DO have to taste good. And these do.

The beauty of these 4-ingredient banana cookies are that they are versatile, simple to make, and only take up to 15 minutes. Plus, it's a new and delicious way to use up those overripe bananas on your kitchen counter! Here's some cooking tips to get you started:

You Can Double Up

Due to the simplicity of this recipe, you can certainly double up on ingredients to increase the batch outtake. The bananas just have to be ripe enough so that you can mush them with a fork easily—they are the base of your cookie!

Meet Your Goals

If you're looking to include a little health boost, feel free to add in some ground flaxseed meal or chia seeds. Use the recommended serving amount—for example, 2 tablespoons of ground flaxseed meal. Utilizing more or less can really affect the taste of the cookie.

Ingredient Swaps

Make this recipe your new favorite with ingredient swaps based on your taste and dietary needs. Instead of using Whole Foods semi-sweet mini chocolate chips like I enjoy, you can opt for full dark or milk chocolate chips. Trader Joe's has incredibly tasty gluten-free and dairy-free chocolate chips that I swear by. You can also get creative with seasonings—one recipe lover even sprinkled in a bit of cinnamon!

Note: Not all rolled oats are automatically gluten-free because there can be cross-contamination. Make sure to look for a gluten-free certification mark. Bob's Red Mill is always a great solution—check out these old-fashioned rolled oats.

If the chance of gluten doesn't affect you, I usually turn to Whole Foods for their organic old-fashioned rolled oats ( may contain wheat).

Keep an Eye on the Stove

As every oven cooks at different temperatures and speeds, it's important to watch these cookies pretty intently around the 12-minute mark. If you see the oats beginning to turn golden brown, take them out of the heat!
